"We recently booked an half day charter with Captain Brian and it exceeded all expectations! He was very knowledgeable, and made sure he put us "on the fish". We enjoyed every moment! This was truly a five-star experience that we can't wait to do again in December! (Yes, our experience was that good that we already pre-booked a charter for our next trip to Crystal River!)" - Alexa
Snook: These hard-fighting linesiders are the rock stars of inshore fishing. Snook love to hang around structure, so we'll be targeting mangrove shorelines, docks, and oyster bars. They're known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps. The best part? Snook fishing is hot year-round in Crystal River, with peak action during the warmer months.
Sheepshead: Don't let their goofy grin fool you - these striped bandits are tough customers. Sheepshead are masters of stealing bait, but when you hook one, you're in for a stubborn fight. They love hanging around pilings and rock structures, and their tough mouths make for a challenging catch. Winter is prime time for sheepshead, and they're not just fun to catch - they're mighty tasty too.
Sea Trout: Also known as spotted seatrout, these guys are the bread and butter of Crystal River fishing. They're abundant, willing to bite, and put up a great fight on light tackle. We often find them over grass flats and around deeper holes. The "gator" trout (the big ones) will give you a run for your money, and their subtle bite makes for an exciting challenge.
Redfish: Ah, the copper-colored bulldogs of the flats. Redfish are a favorite among our guests for their powerful runs and tendency to tail in shallow water. We'll look for them cruising the flats or hanging around oyster bars. Fall is fantastic for redfish, but we catch them year-round. There's nothing quite like the sight of a redfish's tail sticking up out of the water as it roots for crabs - it's sight-fishing at its finest.
Look, I could go on all day about the fishing here in Crystal River, but the truth is, you've got to experience it for yourself. Our half-day trip is the perfect taste of what these waters have to offer. Whether you're looking to bend a rod with some friends, teach the kids how to fish, or just escape the grind for a few hours, we've got you covered. Captain Bryan's know-how, combined with the incredible fishery of Crystal River, makes for a can't-miss experience. So what are you waiting for? The fish are biting, and your spot on the boat is waiting. Let's make some memories and maybe even catch dinner while we're at it. Book your Crystal River fishing charter today - trust me, your future self will thank you.

Sheepshead are one of the more unique fish you'll catch around here. They're easily recognizable by their black and white stripes – we sometimes call 'em convict fish. Most run 1-8 pounds, but you might hook into a 20-pounder if you're lucky. These guys love structure. You'll find them around docks, bridges, and any barnacle-covered pilings. They're year-round residents, but the bite really picks up in early spring when they spawn. Sheepshead are famous for their human-like teeth, which they use to crush barnacles and crabs. This makes them notoriously tricky to hook – they're masters at stealing bait. But that's part of the fun! The challenge of outsmarting them keeps anglers coming back. For the best shot at landing one, use small hooks and natural baits like fiddler crabs or oysters. Fish as close to the structure as you can without snagging. And when you feel that nibble, set the hook fast and hard. The fight is solid, and the meat is delicious – sweet and flaky. Just be prepared for a bit of work cleaning them!
Sea trout, or speckled trout as we call 'em, are a blast to catch. You'll typically find these guys in the 14-24 inch range, though some monsters pushing 40 inches do show up occasionally. They prefer cooler waters and often hang out in grass flats and shallow areas, especially at night. These fish are ambush predators, so look for them around structures where they can hide and wait for prey. Spring and fall are great seasons to target sea trout when water temperatures are just right. Anglers love 'em for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights. They're also mighty tasty – the meat is tender and mild, perfect for a fresh fish fry. Here's a local tip: try using soft plastic lures that mimic shrimp or small baitfish. Work them slowly with a twitching retrieve. Sea trout can't resist it. Just be careful not to overcook them if you're keeping some for dinner – they can get mushy fast.
Redfish are a real favorite around here. You'll find these guys lurking in shallow waters, often just 1-4 feet deep. They love hanging out near oyster reefs, seagrass, and old structures like piers. Most redfish we catch are in the 20-30 inch range, but they can get much bigger offshore. Look for them year-round, but fall is prime time when they school up to spawn. Redfish put up an awesome fight and are known for their powerful runs. They've got this unique black spot near the tail that tricks predators – pretty cool defense mechanism. If you want to land one, try fishing topwater lures in shallow flats early morning or evening. The explosion when they hit is a real rush. Live shrimp work great too. Just remember to work your bait slowly – redfish aren't known for chasing down fast-moving lures. These fish make excellent table fare with a mild, sweet flavor. There's nothing quite like fresh redfish on the grill after a good day on the water.
